This special blend is our version of a special formula all the way from 14th century Europe. As with the legend our Thieves of Europe is an essential oil blend based on the vinegar of the four thieves, a concoction of wines infused with herbs, spices or garlic that was believed to protect users from the black plague, which was running rampant throughout Europe and Asia. It was one of the most deadly pandemics in history and is estimated to have killed about 50% of Europe's population and reduced the world's population by about 100 million people. During this time, there was a band of thieves from Europe, who were notoriously robbing the infectious dead bodies of all their possessions. They, miraculously, never contracted the highly infectious plague and this led to a deep inquiry in court after they were caught and charged. The magistrate offered them a deal, their secret for a reduced sentence. Since this disease was so contagious that families often died in droves, it was imperative to the communities to learn this mystical secret. The band of thieves, legends say there were four, disclosed the secret that has lived on and protects us from air borne disease, even today. These men were, by trade, perfumers and spice traders. They'd concocted a mixture of various essential oils to protect them not only from the airborne germs, but also from actually touching the decaying bodies. Our custom blend combines clove, lemon, cinnamon, eucalyptus and rosemary essential oils is based on this ancient blend and has a nice spicy scent.
